US Intelligence and UFO reports

On the last week of March, 2021, both UFO followers and people who have no particular interest in the subject were surprised by the statements made by a former US intelligence chief during a television interview regarding a report on unidentified flying objects to be issued by the Pentagon in the coming months.

In a conversation with Fox News’ journalist Maria Bartiromo on Friday, March 19, 2021, John Ratcliffe, who was the National Director of Intelligence during the last eight months of the Trump administration, said that “there are many more sightings than have been reported.”

“When we talk about sightings, we talk about objects that have been seen by Navy or Air Force pilots, which have been detected by satellite images, carrying out actions that, frankly, are difficult to explain, movements that are difficult to replicate, because we don’t have the technology to travel at speeds that exceed the speed of sound without a sonic boom,” he said.

Ratcliffe’s statements raised expectations about a report that the Pentagon will have to issue at the request of the US Congress around June of this year, in which it will have to detail “everything they know” about unidentified aerial phenomena.

Sightings around the world

On Monday, December 28, 2020, former United States president Donald Trump signed a $2.3 billion bill that primarily aimed to provide financial support to those affected by the Coronavirus pandemic.

However, several unrelated laws were added to the 5,593-page document and one of them called on the Intelligence services to present the Senate Intelligence Committee with a report on “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena” within 180 days.

“In short, there are things we are observing that are difficult to explain, and indeed, there are quite a few of them, that information is being collected and will be presented so that the American people can see”, Ratcliffe said in the interview with Fox News.

“There have been sightings all over the world, and when we talk about sightings, it is not just a pilot and a satellite or some intelligence gathering. Usually we have multiple sensors that are detecting these things,” added the former US intelligence chief.

Ratcliffe’s made his remarks after academics and high-level government officials made similar comments in recent months, sometimes far more sensational. For example, some months ago the former head of the Israel Security Program Haim Eshed made headlines when he said that, apparently, aliens live among humans.

Similarly, the Israeli astrophysicist based in the United States Abraham “Avi” Loeb also caused a stir in recent months by stating, from his position as a professor at the prestigious Harvard University, that an interstellar object baptized by astronomers as Oumuamua would actually be a technological device of extraterrestrial origin and in February he presented that theory in his book Extraterrestrial.

Good explanations?

At the end of his interview with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo, John Ratcliffe hinted that the US Government might release more information than ever before about unidentified aerial phenomena when it issues the report expected by many.

“When we see these things, Maria, we always look for a plausible explanation, if the weather can cause visual disturbances, or sometimes we wonder if our adversaries have technologies that are a little more advanced than we thought or than we had noticed”, Ratcliffe said.

“But there are instances where we don't have good explanations for some of the things we’ve seen and when that information is declassified I’ll be able to talk a little more about that. I believe that it will be healthy if as much information as possible is disclosed,” he concluded.
